Head Coach – Gary Winchester

Gary Winchester returns for his second season as Head Coach for the Bantams after serving as the assistant coach during the club’s inaugural season in 2012.  Gary’s leadership helped lead the program through tremendous growth for a new franchise and brings stability to the coaching staff with his passion and commitment.

Originally from Penicuik, Scotland, Gary Winchester graduated from Lander University (2005) where he was a two-year starter.  Prior to that, Winchester had played two years at Iowa Central Community College.  After graduation, Winchester was hired at Emerald High School (Greenwood, SC) where he taught and coached the women’s soccer team. He has also served as the director of the local youth soccer club.

In 2007, Erskine tapped Winchester to be the head women’s soccer coach. Winchester has his “A” license with the United States Soccer Federation and is a member of the South Carolina Olympic Development Program coaching staff.  Entering his seventh season, Winchester brought much needed stability to the Erskine women’s soccer program.  Prior to his arrival, the Lady Fleet had had four head coaches in as many years.

Coach Winchester resides in Greenwood, South Carolina, with his wife, Betsy, and two year old daughter Keighan.

 

Assistant Coach Fitness/Technical Development Coach – Jamie Ramm

Originally from Scarborough, England, Jamie Ramm graduated from Lander University (2011) with an Exercise Science degree. At Lander, Ramm was a two time All-American and a two-time Conference Tournament MVP.  While still at school, Ramm, was hired by Greenwood High School (Greenwood, SC), where he coached the Men’s Soccer team to two Region Championships in three years. 

After graduating, Ramm was hired by Newberry College as the Women’s Assistant Soccer Coach, which he held until 2012.  Coach Ramm also serves as the Director of Coaching and Academy Director for SC United Toros Soccer Club in Greenwood, SC where he has led the club through growth and development. 

He has coached soccer in England, France, Canada and in the U.S, while also gaining his NSCAA Advanced National License.  Coach Ramm is former captain for the PDL’s Ottawa Fury as well as the SC United Bantams.  Jamie brings his experience and passion for teaching the game to the Bantams staff.  Ramm resides in Greenwood, S.C.

 

Assistant Coach GK Training – Clark McCarthy


Having already proven his abilities as a student-athlete as a four-year letter winner at Lander, and as a coach at many capacities, Clark McCarthy made his transition to the PDL coaching world as an assistant coach with the SC United Bantams in 2013, while also serving an important role in the goalkeeper training.

A goalkeeper for the Lander Bearcats, McCarthy played an integral part in 4 straight runs to NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 2005 run that concluded in the NCAA quarterfinals.  During his stint in Greenwood, S.C., Lander captured the 2005 Southeast Region title, and the 2006 Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships.

McCarthy graduated magna cum laude from Lander with his bachelor’s degree after maintaining a 3.76 cumulative GPA.  He was a four-time honoree on the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll, a four-time dean’s list designee and a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society. McCarthy currently holds his USSF and NSCAA National coaching licenses.  McCarthy serves as Head Men’s soccer coach at Dreher High School while also serving on the South Carolina United FC Coaching Staff and the South Carolina ODP Staff.  He currently resides in Columbia, SC and is married to Christina Greene and together are expecting their first child.
